COBRA
COBRA continuation coverage essentially allows you to temporarily keep the same health insurance plan you had through your employer, even after you're no longer employed or otherwise lose eligibility for the plan.
TRS-ActiveCare is the statewide health coverage program for active Texas public school employees, with medical benefits administered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX).

COBRA Enrollment Steps
Wait for notification: Your school district's benefits administrator will report your coverage loss or job separation to Bswift on the last of the month following your separation. You should receive an official COBRA election packet in the mail or online shortly after your active coverage ends.
Contact the administrator: If you need to jumpstart the process or have not received your packet by the last day of your termination month, call bswift directly at 833-682-8972. TRS-Care Customer Service at 1-866-355-5999 with questions before you make health care decisions.
Observe deadlines: You have 60 days from the date your coverage ends or from the date on your COBRA election notice (whichever is later) to officially elect to continue coverage.
Make payment: After electing COBRA, you have 45 days to submit your first premium payment. Coverage will be retroactive to the date your active employee coverage lapsed as long as you pay on time.
